Saint Roch

He appears to have lived in the 14th century, but nothing more about him is known; this character is probably a combination of a number of real people. He travelled throughout Europe healing the sick, particularly those suffering from the plague, who were often detested and feared by their own families. He is normally portrayed as a pilgrim with a cane and a satchel and a black plague spot on his nose, often in company with St. Sebastian, and Sts. Cosmas and Damian, who also protect against plague. He is the patron saint of doctors, pharmacists, the sick, captives, farmers, sellers of art, gardeners, brush makers, carpenters and tilers, he intercedes for those with infections, foot diseases and the misfortunate.
