Vratislaus I

* circa 888, †921

A Czech duke from 915, member of the Přemyslids, son of Bořivoj I, father of St. Wenceslaus. He probably founded the church of St. George at Prague Castle in 916, which is today St. George’s Basilica. He was probably the first Přemyslid who expanded the realm beyond the borders of the Bohemian basin. He was buried in the church of St. George, under the floor in front of the chancel, and his remains have now been placed in a tomb in the main aisle of St. George’s Basilica.
